Artist of the Month June 2023

Penny Burke

Penny lives in New Hampton, NH on Lake Winona with husband, Ray. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, class of 1973, with a BA in Art and undeclared minor in Plant Science. Among her favorite studies were three semesters of figure drawing. 

Penny is a member of Artistic Roots of Plymouth, NH, Squam Lakes Artisans and Lakes Region Art Association. Her special interests are in two dimensional arts using oil or graphite medium. 

In addition to Artistic Roots in Plymouth and Squam Lakes Artisans in Center Harbor, her work can be found at Walter’s Basin in Holderness. Art shows include Lakes Region Art Association’s Annual juried show, Meredith Public Library Shows, Annual Families First Seacoast Artist Calendar Show, Sandwich Artisans on the Green. Other work can be viewed by appointment at her home. 

Most of Penny’s oil paintings depict areas of New England including the seacoast, lakes region and mountains. Warm fall colors, rolling fog from the hills or lakes, a lighthouse, boathouse or a sugar shack are among the subjects. Her originals include miniatures on canvas from 2”x2” to any larger stretched canvas. Other surfaces include gallery wrapped canvas, canvas board or genuine Vermont slate tiles. Her passion for dogs can be found in graphite portraits on fine art paper or original oil paintings.
