YOUTH SERVICES ASSISTANT
PART-TIME
NON-EXEMPT

Do you love working with youth and enjoy helping others? Are you passionate about reading and creating a sense of community? The Moultonborough Public Library is seeking a friendly and creative Youth Services Assistant to join the staff. In this role, the Youth Services Assistant will work closely with the Head of Youth Services to create a welcoming environment and help inspire the next generation of readers.

Specific Duties
This is a part-time (20-24 hours/week) position that assists with daily operations in the youth services department and from time to time at the front circulation desk. The Youth Services Assistant will:

  • Connect through Programs: Help with brainstorming, planning, and running library programs for youth, from toddlers to teens.
  • Be the Guide: Help kids, parents, and teachers find exactly what they need, offering reader’s advisory and connecting them with learning resources.
  • Spread the Word: Help youth and families find out about upcoming events and initiatives through eye-catching library displays, social media posts, and newsletters to promote our events.
  • Shape the Collection: Help recommend exciting new books and media, and keep our current collection looking great by helping to process books, shelve items, and organize materials.

Qualifications Required

  • A Service-First Mindset: You are welcoming, professional, and excel at building relationships with a diverse public.
  • Love for reading: You have an interest in youth literature and knowledge of or interest in learning current reader interests, books, and authors across a variety of genres.
  • Technology Skills: You are comfortable with Google, library software, and basic office hardware.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: You take initiative, work well independently, and are not afraid to ask questions when needed. You also work well and collaboratively with other staff.
  • Adaptability: You can shift priorities in a fast-paced environment and are willing to work a varied schedule, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Education: A high school diploma is required. A Bachelor’s degree and prior library/service experience is preferred.
  • Experience: 1-3 years experience working directly with youth, preferably in a library or similar setting.

Why You’ll Love Working Here
The Moultonborough Public Library offers a supportive, professional environment where personal growth and continuing education are encouraged. This position includes pro-rated paid holidays and pro-rated paid time off.
